In the wake of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Game 7 victory over the Denver Nuggets, Anthony Edwards’ “bring ya ass” cry became a rallying cry.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz included it in his declaration that Wednesday is Wolves Back Day.

As Charles Barkley informed Edwards he hadn’t been to Minnesota in 20 years during his postgame interview with TNT, Edwards made the remark.

In the final two quarters, the Timberwolves outscored the defending champs 60-37 to earn a 98-90 victory on the road against the Nuggets.

With 16 points on 6-of-24 shooting, Edwards didn’t have an outstanding offensive game, but his defense was crucial to the T-Wolves making a run after halftime. After scoring 24 points in the first half, he held Jamal Murray to 2 of 6 shots as his primary defender in the second half. This is only Minnesota’s second appearance in the Western Conference Finals in its 35-year history.

A victory over the Sacramento Kings in Game 7 of the 2004 Western Conference semifinals, in which Kevin Garnett had 32 points, 21 rebounds, five blocks, and four steals, was the only other strong contender.

In the Western Conference Finals, Minnesota lost in six games to the Los Angeles Lakers following its victory over the Kings. In Game 6, the Timberwolves overcame a 3-2 deficit to the Nuggets by scoring 45 points and going on the road in Game 7 to advance to the Western Conference Finals. Minnesota won three of four regular-season games against the Mavericks, but all of those games were played between Dec. 14 and Jan. 31. At that point, the Mavericks hadn’t acquired P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford.
